Multimodality, where next?–Some meta-methodological considerations

In this position statement, I draw broadly on approaches and theories relevant to the phenomena of multimodality propose some methodological directions for further cycles development application. Two apparently opposed goals are accepted reconciled: one hand, increased attention needs be paid empirical studies and, other, highly exploratory smaller scale case with more conjectural analyses need continued expanded. To achieve an integrative view spanning both forms approach, refinements capable reducing gap between theoretical metalanguages larger-scale research required. Multimodality is consequently reconstrued not as a field study in its own right, but stage through which many disciplines naturally pass. Means then explored securing access various frameworks tools provide by combining new models disciplinary triangulation finely articulated notion materiality.
